Music at St. Francis
O God, whom saints and angels delight to worship in heaven: Be ever present with your servants who seek through art and music to perfect the praises offered by your people on earth; and grant to them even now glimpses of your beauty, and make them worthy at length to behold it unveiled for evermore; through Jesus Christ of Lord, Amen.
Erik Pittman has been the organist and choirmaster of St. Francis in Denham Springs off and on, for about 12 years. His first stint was during the 1990s and returned in 2014 following a broadening of his horizons in many ways, including service in the U.S. Army deployed to Afghanistan.
His philosophy of church music mirrors that of St. Augustine of Hippo -- which can be expressed as 'a person who sings, prays twice.'
Music is an integral part of our worship and the Anglican musical traditions are the richest source to allow our worship to bring us closer to God. Traditional hymnody offers rich opportunities for deep and meaningful worship by the beauty of the Anglican tradition means we aren't just limited to those traditional hymns.
Helped by a reinvigorated choir, we continue to offer worthy prayer and praise to God in our liturgies.
Erik shares his varied musical gifts and talents of playing the organ, piano and cello in addition to chanting and leading the choir. His joyful enthusiasm is felt by the congregation at each service, whether inside the church or standing outside under a tent or on the parking lot, Erik continues to share his ministry at St. Francis.
Hallelujah! Sing to the Lord a new song; sing his praise in the congregation of the faithful.
